Gold cuttlefish cast pendant with purple sapphire
Gold cuttlefish cast pendant with purple sapphire
This stunning one-of-a-kind gold pendant features a responsibly sourced, precision-cut purple Madagscan sapphire that has been cast directly into the gold using the ancient technique of cuttlefish casting. The sapphire was cut by the very talented Michelle Mai (her body of work can be found on her Instagram account: mvmgems). The cuttlefish bone used for the mold had deformities, which gave it an extremely unusual and highly patterned and textured finish, which was capitalized on in creating the mold and placement of the stone. The casting method imparts a captivating luster to the gold, which is exclusive to the process.
Materials & Measurements:
· Recycled 14K gold pendant; Weight: 5.3g
· Madagscan sapphire: 0.7ct; 5.1 x 7.6mm
· Hand woven Japanese silk cord (8 by 6 thread count)
A customized version of this pendant can be made. The price will vary according to the size/color of the stone and karat of gold chosen. Due to the uniqueness of the casting process, no two pendants are the same. There is always a little movement of the stones when the molten gold hits them and the amount of gold that covers the stones can vary. This is what makes the process so exciting! I will work with the customer throughout the creative process to ensure that expectations are being met. Custom made work is non-returnable.
Please allow 2-4 weeks for production/delivery of a customized version of the pendant, longer if a component has to be ordered.
