This stunning one-of-a-kind gold pendant features a responsibly sourced, cushion precision-cut blue Tanzanian spinel that has been cast directly into the gold using the ancient technique of cuttlefish casting. The spinel was cut by the very talented Tia Ong (her body of work can be found on her Instagram account: Pebblesprout). The cuttlefish bone used for the mold had deformities, which gave it an extremely unusual and highly patterned and textured finish, which was capitalized on in creating the mold and placement of the stone. The casting method imparted a captivating luster to the gold, which is exclusive to the process.

Due to the violent process of casting stones directly into molten metal at temperatures in excess of 2000oF, the heat pressure can, on occasions, cause stones to crack. In this case, the top right had corner of this spinel cracked during the casting process. None-the-less, the pendant came out extremely beautifully.

The price has been adjusted accordingly to reflect the damaged spinel, which was factored at half the retail price of the spinel in the price calculation.

A customized version of this pendant can be made. The price will vary according to the size/color of the stone and karat of gold chosen. Due to the uniqueness of the casting process, no two pendants are the same. There is always a little movement of the stones when the molten gold hits them and the amount of gold that covers the stones can vary. This is what makes the process so exciting! I will work with the customer throughout the creative process to ensure that expectations are being met. Custom made work is non-returnable.
